cell animation

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs:
Snow white was made in 1937, it is an American animated musical fantasy film that was produced by Walt Disney but it was originally released by RKO Radio Pictures. Snow White was one of the first Disney animated canon, it was also the first one that is in English, the first one in Technicolor and the first one that was ever maid in the US. There is more than 1,500,000 individual pen-and-ink drawings and also water-colour paintings.

Cel is used for painting animation frames, it is a transparent sheet so that it can be laid over painted backgrounds or cels, then it is photographed. Cell was used during the first half of the 20th century. disney studios stopped using cels in 1990 because it was replaced by computer animation. On cels the characters are drawn on and then laid over a static background drawing, by doing this it will reduce the amount of times the image has to be redrawn. on the cel, the outlines of the image are drawn on the front of the cel and the colours are painted on the back of it to eliminate brushstrokes. When all the drawings are finished, a pencil test is done to make sure that all the movements flow and that nothing is missing. The backgrounds of the scenes are painted in a lot of detail and hale a lot of attention to shading, lighting and perspective, this is because the backgrounds are seen for a long period of time and it covers more area than any of the other single items of animation. When all the cels are finished, they are given to the camera person who then photographs the backgrounds with their matching cels.
