Unit 2 - Communication Skills for Creative Media Production

Unit 2 - Communication Skills for Creative Media industries

The to show that I am creating is about a group of 5 people who are trying to survive in an apocalyptic world, they have a lot of problems while doing this, some of the problems that they have to face are supernatural and radioactive people and creatures, they have to fight for their life's every day to survive, but what they don't know is that some of the humans that are left on the earth aren't as good at they thought their y would be, they are actually worse than the radioactive and supernatural creatures.

Market research:

Some of the TV shows that are popular in the same genre that my to show is are the walking dead and American horror story. The walking dead is about a zombie apocalypse, there is a group of people, the leader of the group of people is called Rick who was the county sheriff, rick wakes up in an empty hospital after weeks in a comer and woke up alone in the apocalypse. The group has to fight zombies and even people, it shows what everyone's life was like before the apocalypse had started and what their life is like now that the apocalypse has started, it shows how many struggles they will face and how they will survive and work together to keep each other safe. American horror story is a horror-drama TV show, each season is in a new setting with a different story the seasons include murder house, this is about a house that a man and women move into but they don't know the story of this house, the house is known as the murder house because of all the people who got killed in there, the next season is Asylum, this one is about a reporter who wants to interview or just get a murder on camera but there are some things she doesn't know about the people who own the asylum and especially the one who is in charge of it, after the reporter gets in the asylum she realises that she has been assigned to the asylum and has to try and find her way out, the next one is called the coven, it is about a group of witches they are in an academy that is run buy about her witch who is also known as a "supreme" and 3 other ones. The walking dead is on the TV channel Fox, it starts at 9pm on Mondays. American horror story is on channel Fox and it starts at 10pm on a Friday. The weekly viewing figures for the walking dead are 1,682 this is 7 day data. The weekly viewing figures for American horror story are 309, both of the shows are quite popular and have a lot of views weekly so the to show that I am creating might do good in views too.

Audience research:
for my TV show the target audience Is for people who who are aged 15 to 20 and the gender of people who would watch this would be male and female because it appeals to both genders but mainly males would watch it. The tv show is a bit the same as the walking dead and American horror story. It's like the walking dead because there is an apocalypse and a group of people have to try and survive by looking for food, water, medication and weapons to defend themselves and to stay alive. It is also like American horror story because it is a horror and it has supernatural things in it and crazy people who are trying to kill the humans who are still alive. People like the walking dead because ipofmthe story that it tells and the friendship that the characters make in it, it is also directed really well, people like American horror story because ever season has a different storyline so it can be interesting for everyone to watch, the characters are also really good at acting. The walking dead has a target audience of male and females who are aged 15 to 25, this is because the walking dead is aged 15+ because of the gore and the language so younger people won't watch it but teenagers and young adults will.

Production research:
For my TV show I would need 12 actors, they will be a mix of male and female, there will be a group of 5 and a group of 7 and there will be 2 main characters, to produce this tv show, the equipment and crew that I will need to make this are a cameraman to film the tv show, a director to make sure everything goes right on the tv show, To film the tv show the equipment I will need for it is camera equipment so it is easier for the cameraman to actually film the tv show, camera assistant so they can help film the tv show, a microphone and boom operator to make sure that the sound it in good quality and that there isn't any unwanted background sounds, lighting equipment to make sure that the quality on the film recording will look good and so people can also see what's going on but the lighting can also change to fit with the scene, headphones to hear the audio properly because if the people who are doing the audio don't use headphones then it might be hard for them to hear it and to make sure the sound is in good quality, memory sticks for the camera so you can save the video so you can edit in when you have finished filming it and also so you don't loose any of the recordings, stunt doubles so the actual characters don't get injured on the set, we make sure that trained people are doing all the dangerous stunts. The location that my tv show will be in is Los Angeles, I chose this because it is a good location and it will fit in well with what the tv show is about because of the scenery that is there and it will also be good for a horror tv show.

cell animation

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs:
Snow white was made in 1937, it is an American animated musical fantasy film that was produced by Walt Disney but it was originally released by RKO Radio Pictures. Snow White was one of the first Disney animated canon, it was also the first one that is in English, the first one in Technicolor and the first one that was ever maid in the US. There is more than 1,500,000 individual pen-and-ink drawings and also water-colour paintings.

Cel is used for painting animation frames, it is a transparent sheet so that it can be laid over painted backgrounds or cels, then it is photographed. Cell was used during the first half of the 20th century. disney studios stopped using cels in 1990 because it was replaced by computer animation. On cels the characters are drawn on and then laid over a static background drawing, by doing this it will reduce the amount of times the image has to be redrawn. on the cel, the outlines of the image are drawn on the front of the cel and the colours are painted on the back of it to eliminate brushstrokes. When all the drawings are finished, a pencil test is done to make sure that all the movements flow and that nothing is missing. The backgrounds of the scenes are painted in a lot of detail and hale a lot of attention to shading, lighting and perspective, this is because the backgrounds are seen for a long period of time and it covers more area than any of the other single items of animation. When all the cels are finished, they are given to the camera person who then photographs the backgrounds with their matching cels.

Cut out animation

time lapse

Time lapse animation

This is a time lapse of a storm. A time lapse is made by taking some photos of something with the camera in the same position, when the camera has taken a few photos it will make the object look like its moving but its just some photos close together that are taken every few seconds.

unit 8 - understanding the television and the film industry.

Chapter 1:
Understanding structure and funding in the TV and Film industries.

Ownership:

Public services- this refers to TV programs that are broadcasted for the public benefit, rather than commercial purposes. these programs include radio and TV, funding for this comes from the government, an example of public services is the BBC, the BBC is a channel on TV where they have the latest news and sport headlines, weather, tv and radio highlights,
Commercial- This is broadcasting of TV programs by privately owned corporate media. This was the US' first model of radio and later television. Television began with commercial sponsorship and then later changed to paid commercial time, an example of this is ITV, ITV is a tv channel that had a lot of different shows on it, it also had a lot of commercials on it so they can make a profit.

Funding:
Advertising- this is when television programs are produced and paid for by an organization, this is typically to market a product of service. The advertising revenue provides a portion of the funding for privately owned television networks. Most of the television advertisements consist of brief advertising spots that are from a few seconds to several minutes long
License fee- A license fee is is a record of payment that is for reception of television broadcasts or the possession of a television where some of the broadcasts are funded in a full or in a part by the licence fee paid. The public have to pay for a license fee, a license fee costs £145.50 for a color TV licence and £49.00 for a black and white one, you can pay your license fee all in one go or you can spread the cost of it. People who are aged 74 or over, in a care home and are registered as blind they gets a reduce fee for the license. If you dont pay your licence fee you can be fined £1,000.
